Re: WEIRD LAWS

par antonella de sena,
In West Australia 50 kg is the maximum permitted quantity of potatoes that one can possess. Over 50 kilograms is considered illegal, and this weird law states that the regulators can take strict action against it.
In Washington motorists with criminal intentions that are driving through the city limits of Washington must call the Police Chief before entering the city.
Weddings and funeral services must never be disturbed in Australia. Doing so wouldn't just mean the person will be banned from all the social events but could also invite a $10,000 fine or even two-year-long prison time.

- UTAH DOESN'T HAVE HAPPY HOUR. It is considered illegal to discount booze or do anything that might promote overindulgence.
-In Hartford, it's illegal to collect paper, glass, old metal, junk, cinders without a license.

Re: WEIRD LAWS

par Claire Jenkins,
Thanks, Paola! So bizarre! You can't even MENTION holding hands?!?! What about when you go on a school trip and everyone's got their partner and they hold hands so everyone sticks together. No school trip buddies in Tennessee, I guess....

Re: WEIRD LAWS

par Sara Castellammare,
- In Switzerland people are not allowed to flush the toilet after 10 p.m. as it's considered noise pollution.
- In Scotland people must not wear any underwear under their kilts.
- In Tuszyn, Poland, the lovely “Winnie the Pooh” is banned from all playgrounds and children’s areas because the character doesn’t wear pants and has no specific gender. (I can’t with this rule AHAHAHAHA)
- In Eraclea, Italy, building sandcastles is illegal in the city as a matter of "public decorum." (I didn’t even know the existence of this city. WOW)
- In Canada, Canadian radio stations must only play Canadian artists. This means that in a day, people will listen the same singers as Nickelback, Avril Lavigne, Celine Dion, Justin Bieber, Michael Buble, Alanis Morissette.

Re: WEIRD LAWS

par Sara Iodice,
- It is illegal to die in Falciano del Massico. This small town in Campania doesn’t have a cemetery so, in March 2012, its mayor decided to solve the problem by outlawing death. Apparently, two of the town’s older residents had already defied the law before the end of that first year.

- Sitting on a park bench might sound like a harmless activity but do it in a group of three after 11 p.m., and you’re breaking the law, says The Independent. Thankfully, the rule only applies to the city of Novara in the Piedmont region. Lawmakers from Viareggio in Tuscany are also vigilant about their benches; put your feet up there and you could be fined.

Samoa is my new favourite place! What a great law - haha!
Why are they spoilsports in Eraclea?? Is there some sort of environmental reason?

Re: WEIRD LAWS

par Angelica Voluttoso,
I discovered that it is possible to “build” sandcastles but NOT in front of the lifeguard tower. :)
In reply to Angelica Voluttoso

Re: WEIRD LAWS

par Claire Jenkins,
Ah ok, that makes more sense. I guess the lifeguards would feel guilty if they had to run into the sea to save someone....and happened to destroy someone's sandcastle while doing so! That's my interpretation of this law.... :-)

Re: WEIRD LAWS

par Rosa D'Errico,
They all have found the strangest laws! Here is what I found:

In Hong Kong, a woman is allowed to kill her cheating husband only with her bare hands.
In Bangladesh, if a child (15 years or older) is caught cheating during an exam, he/she can be sent to jail. (poor children!)
